What our guests have to say
about Wombat Bend

  • Delightful accomodations and peaceful location with great access to the Yarra Valley while feeling off the beaten path. Owners are wonderful and have created a true gem location for getting away from it all.

  • A wonderfully relaxing long weekend in a slice of heaven we didn't know existed: stunning vista, birdsong and being able to hear the wind in the trees. The gorgeous 'Burrow' was so cosy and comfortable, with a mesmerising outlook over the billabong; beautifully appointed and catered for … More with amazing treats. And the bed: fabulous linen sheets, the warmest hugging doona, and probably the most comfortable bed ever slept on. Tranquil, relaxing and utterly restorative - do yourself a favour, book now.

  • What a delightful place to stay! From the cheery welcome on arrival to the reluctant goodbyes on leaving, my heart was filled with warmth and gratitude to know that our hosts, two gentle souls, Bill and Sue, still work tirelessly to improve our troubled world. The secluded, peaceful haven that they have … More created for guests, is a testament to their beliefs. The native vegetation and the billabong on the property, attract a myriad of birdlife, making for a very relaxing, peaceful environment to escape from everyday life.Being country folk, we were especially surprised to drink tank waterin accommodation so close to Melbourne. It just felt like home! The well stocked pantry and locally sourced fresh, quality provisions, made cooking a pleasure. On our first night, weary from travelling the Yarra Glen Pub, just down the road, served us fabulous meals. With appointments in the city Friday and Monday, our 3 night stay at The Burrow was perfect. The city, an easy drive from Dixons Creek. With the weekend to explore the lovely Yarra Valley, hot air ballooning with Global Ballooning, Bruno"s Sculpture Garden at Marysville, and Alowyn Gardens were all on the list.Thank you Sue and Bill, for making our stay so comfortable, easy and relaxing.Looking forward to future visits.

  • I spent five days at one of The Burrow's cosy cottages. I walked, wrote, slept like a wombat and drank cups of tea shawled in one of an array of soft knitted blankets. I'm grateful to Sue and Bill for taking such good care of me. I miss Sue's cooking already.

  • Staying at The Wombat Burrow was so cosy, we literally felt like we were in a burrow. It rained a lot during our stay and that added to the coziness of it all. It was warm, clean and the bed was comfortable with a big fluffy doona. The food and ingredients provided for breakfast was above and beyond … More what we were expecting. We were like kids in a candy store with the abundance of books available to read. The revegetation and restoration works that Sue and Bill have done on this property is inspiring, the biodiversity is spectacular. We will be back!

  • A truly beautiful, calming and picturesque sanctuary in the heart of the Yara Valley. Sue and Bill are the most welcoming hosts and we feel so lucky to have them share their slice of heaven with us.We spent 3 nights at The Burrow, Bill set up a lovely fire by the billabong on our final night where we … More watched the sun go down, toasted marshmallows and watched the many birds settle into the night. Sue had everything we needed and so much more in the guest house, we felt so spoilt with all the, breakfast essentials plus more, treats and homemade lemonade(delicious!!)Who stole the show though were the beautiful Airedale dogs Sue and Bill adore and care for. The most beautiful dogs we have come across. You can really tell that so much love and passion has been put into creating The Burrow. We cannot recommend this place enough and cannot wait to return in the near future.

  • After and aborted weekend away last year (just before lockdown no.3!) we finally managed to spend some time at The Burrow. It was well worth the wait! The property is magnificent! Just perfect for a relaxing weekend away from the stresses of real life. Sue and Bill are the perfect hosts and Agnus … More and friends were just the icing on the cake!
Thank you and we look forward to our next visit.

  • The Burrow at Wombat Bend is where nature and serenity combine to create a perfect escape to relax and rejuvenate whilst the close proximity to Healesville and Kinglake National Park makes it the ideal base for exploring. Sue, Bill and Angus (the Airedale) are your welcoming hosts. Their generous breakfast … More provisions mean you're well set up for whatever the day brings you.

  • This place is beautiful and idyllic. The sounds of nature and the bird songs will restore your soul. Please do yourself a favour and book in 3 nights! 2 nights is just not enough. If you are a single female looking for a nice getaway, this place is safe and Bill and Sue (and Angus) will look after you. … More They are amazing hosts. They will chat to you but also leave you to your own devices as well. Can recommend the pre-dinner option as it’s nice to not have to cook! Sue’s cooking is amazing. The extra provisions provided are delicious. My soul is now well rested and refreshed from staying here. I will be back. Thank-you so much!

  • If you are craving a taste of Australian biodiversity, unspoilt by incessant city hubbub: this is a top pick! Nestled in the beauty of the Yarra valley, hosts Sue and Bill have created an amazing pocket of serenity, overlooking a tranquil lagoon that is enfolded in a wonderfully rich array of plant and … More animal life. Staying in their hand built, mud brick-timber cottage, indulges a fine combination of environmentally harmonious living with soothing luxuries of linen sheets, an expansive shower room, timber furniture and captivating views that transform across the day and unmask their many facets of beauty with changing weather. A home cooked meal can be added into the package and what a generous spread we were served after a full day riding some of the amazing bike tracks through the gorgeous surrounds. We also enjoyed a fabulous time chatting with our very knowledgeable hosts in the company of their good-natured Airedale Angus, in front of the fire pit; as the dusk settled in and the sparks wafted up to join the spectacular clear night sky of sparkling stars. Highly recommend this accommodation.

  • How wonderful it has been to return to The Burrow (four times now) to be welcomed at the gate by Angus, and enveloped once more in Sue and Bill's generous hospitality and warmth of friendship. It always feels like home away from home, where we can relax completely in the comfort, beauty and serenity … More of this fabulous hide-away. Dear Sue & Bill, thank you, thank you, thank you! ❤

  • I’ve stayed at the burrow 3 times over the past year to write and relax and it’s honestly one of the best b&b’s I’ve ever stayed in. Finishing my thesis has been so stressful, so even having short little stays has been so helpful in allowing me to unwind whilst also get away from it all to concentrate … More on the work. I can’t recommend sue and bill’s burrow highly enough to any writers out there. You can request a catered option which allows you to focus on the writing, and Sue is such a good cook. I will definitely be back, hopefully next time to write a book ? Thanks again to Sue and Bill for your warm welcome everytime. See you soon.

  • Our stay at The Burrow at Wombat Bend B & B started off wonderfully. We were greeted by Sue and Bill and made to feel as welcome as if it was our own home. They are friendliest hosts and nothing seemed to be too much trouble for them. The residence itself was well appointed and the surrounds were … More just beautiful and only the sounds of nature could be heard. As Frank Costanza (character from Seinfeld) said: "Serenity Now, Serenity Now!"
We highly recommend this place if you wish to chill while you're visiting the gorgeous Yarra Valley.

  • We had the most peaceful time at Sue and Bill's beautiful home. We stayed for five nights and didn't even leave the property! Sue and Bill are so warm and welcoming, and meeting their beautiful Airedale Angus and the neighbour's friendly horses made the stay extra special. We loved just … More sitting out on the deck watching all of the incredible birds and the beautiful changing light around the billabong. The house itself is so comfortable and cosy, with everything you could possibly need - plus a very generous amount of food and treats! We can't recommend this place enough as the perfect escape from the city. We're looking forward to coming back soon. Thank you so much Bill and Sue, you're really wonderful people and your love and care for stewarding the land is so evident at this special place.

  • One of the most peaceful place in the Yarra Ranges to get out of Melbourne!
Sue & Guillaume are the most welcoming hosts 🥰
The food, the birds, the bed sheets, the place, the location... Everything is made for you to forget about the city!
We had such a great weekend and we're really sad
… More to leave the place 😭
    We'll come back for sure!

  • Sue, Bill (& Angus) have literally created an oasis of relaxation, calm, and most of all natural beauty in the heart of the Yarra valley. Refuge in the Burrows is an easy drive from Melbourne and surrounded by Victorian wine country. The land surrounding the Burrows is a botanical testament to purposeful … More restoration and conservation of native flora and fauna. Bring a telescope or just look up at night to enjoy the clear dark skies illuminated only by the Milky Way. Thank you Sue and Bill for sharing your piece of Eden.

  • My husband and I stayed here for our honeymoon with our baby recently and it was exactly what we needed after a very busy lead up to the wedding. We were able to recover and get some much needed rest and relaxation in a beautiful, peaceful and natural environment. We didn't feel the need to rush … More out and go sightseeing each day, as staying at the Burrow provided everything we needed. We lazed about and read books, walked around the property and hung out by the billabong. We had a fire at night and toasted marshmallows, while enjoying a bottle of wine. I just loved hearing the sounds of the birds and all of the wildlife, right on your doorstep. It was bliss! We loved it so much that we actually extended our stay while we were there.
Sue, Bill and Angus the dog were the perfect hosts, providing everything we needed and checking in regularly (but not too much). We would love to return in the near future. Our son loved having the space to crawl about both inside and out, meeting the horses over the fence and playing with Angus. I'd definitely recommend The Burrow and Wombat Bend. It's a far more pleasant experience than staying at a hotel where you are confined to one room. It's heaven!

  • The best thing about this property is the amazing billabong which instantly calms your soul. Bill and Sue are passionate creators and custodians of this piece of paradise. They are such friendly, interesting hosts and take pride in their property. Sue’s provisions are generous and delicious and the house … More is well set up for a few days stay. A bonus is Angus the Airedale, he is such a character and stole our hearts!
